How do I determine colour tolerances?
Usually, the tolerances for deviations are determinded in the CIE lab colour scale over the DeltaE value.
The standard for the tolerances is what we see with our human eye. The human visual system can best differentiate “colorless” white tones. Due to this for white samples the tolerances must be chosen stronger than for samples with high colour saturation.
The following procedure is recommended for determining colour tolerances:
- Definition of the reference standard. The surface of the standard and the sample should be identical.
- Visual review of samples according to the pass / fail principle.
- Determination of the limit values in the selected colour scale.
